What if Gerry Anderson’s Stingray was a live action show?
In keeping with my previous Thunderbirds poster art, I wanted to have a crack at adapting Gerry Anderson’s Stingray.
While I decided to keep relatively loyal to the designs in Thunderbirds, I opted to do a slightly more radical redesign for some of the elements of Stingray, as the latter’s much more exaggerated and cartoony designs wouldn’t translate as cleanly to “live-action.”
In keeping with their puppets’ designs, Troy Tempest’s appearance is partially based on James Garner, Titan’s look partially from Laurence Olivier, Agent X-2-Zero is based on Claude Rains, and Atlanta is based on her original voice actor, Lois Maxwell. Phones’s appearance is inspired by DeForest Kelley, and Commander Shore is inspired by James Coburn.
Of course, now I’ve done Thunderbirds and Stingray, I’m going to have to have a crack at Captain Scarlet…
